The Nameless World Synopsis:
Aside from his science teacher, Mr. Porter, Noah’s only friends are the bugs he studies and the rocks he collects. Plagued by a tormenting day of bullying at school and the mysterious absence of Mr. Porter, Noah spends his afternoon hiding under an old oak that stands on the outskirts of the playground. Beneath the leaves and acorns, Noah finds Mr. Porter’s spectacles and strange puzzle pieces covered in unearthly markings. While inspecting the puzzle pieces, Noah accidentally opens a portal and vanishes to a mystifying world.
Noah concludes Mr. Porter must have been swept into this new world, too, and is determined to find him – that is, before he is intercepted by Grelgor, a terrifying beast who mistakes Noah for an inhabitant of the Northern City – a city that is not trusted and the people of which are feared throughout the land. Suspicious of Noah’s presence in the eastern forest, Grelgor offers to take Noah to the all-knowing Chatnoir who, if anyone, would be able to tell Noah where to find Mr. Porter.
Grelgor leads Noah to the mystical Crossing of the Rivers where he abandons the boy, leaving Noah to face the unknown alone. In his meeting with the Chatnoir, Noah learns that Mr. Porter is in the nameless world and that Mr. Porter’s arrival was forseen – but Noah’s was not.
With the world in unrest, the Chatnoir warns Noah that he must choose a path – to find Mr. Porter or find a way home. Noah, confused and afraid, chooses to journey to the Origin of the Rivers where he will find the Chatalbin - the only creature that can send Noah home.
Along Noah's journey, he once again crosses paths with Grelgor who is surprised to see Noah roaming the land again. After Noah explains he is traveling to the Origin of the Rivers, Grelgor reluctantly agrees to help him; but to get there, they have to journey to the Northern City to find a quicker means of travel – a dreaded option for both of them.
Noah and Grelgor are unable to blend in with the austere people of the Northern City and the two quickly find themselves in the custody of the Council, awaiting a criminal trial they are sure to lose. Much to Noah’s surprise, Mr. Porter appears at their trial and offers to represent them in future deliberations. Noah and Grelgor are released into Mr. Porter’s custody and taken to a safe place to hide.
Mr. Porter admits to Noah that he is from the nameless world. Mr. Porter created a key (the metallic puzzle pieces) as a way to travel to different worlds in hopes of finding a solution to the troubles the nameless world faces. The Northerners are capturing creatures and plants from other parts of the world and integrating them into the Northern City in order to improve it and make it the best. With the eco-system of the Northern City in a fragile balance and the rest of the world being robbed of vital resources, the lands are dying.
Rebel forces within the city are working to stop those responsible for the devastation. With Noah's help, a plan is devised to regain control of the city and end the destruction of the nameless world. Noah becomes a pivotal player in the plan to save the nameless world, which places his own return home in jeopardy.
